ABOUT

Hi! My name is Cooper White. I've been a professional touring musician for the last ten years, much of it on cruise ships traveling around the world. I'm well versed in Jazz and Popular musical styles, and Classical as well. I've performed with most of the major cruise lines. I've spent the last 3 years performing with For The Record Live based out of Los Angeles, CA (www.fortherecordlive.com). I have three of my own shows that have been performed on cruise ships. I have two websites which highlight my career: www.cooperwhitemusic.com, and www.cbsaxlive.com. I love teaching, and I have a lot of patience. I also teach ESL as well as music. I speak Spanish fluently, as well as my mother tongue English.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors from the Berklee College of Music in Boston 2009.
One year Classical Studies from the Lionel Hampton School of Music-University of Idaho.

I have been freelance teaching music and ESL for years, much of it in the last few years on online platforms like Verbling.com (ESL) and TakeLessons.com (Music).

TEACHING APPROACH

I want the students to find their own voice. Technique, and artistry I believe should be taught at the same time. Technique will be a heavy part of the lessons, but not without purpose. One of the great things about music is being able to express your version of yourself through your instrument. I teach this simultaneously with technique. Jazz, is expression, and should taught as such. The lessons will address the individual problems that the student faces, the lessons will be individualized. For this reason, I won't stick hard and fast to a generic lesson for all students. That being said, every lesson will have structure (scales, exercises, tunes/etudes etc) that I will check up on and guide the student. Also, I believe it a teachers purpose to guide the student. A student wants to learn, I want to teach. I will make a point to make sure they remain disciplined, but I don't need them to worship me or anything like that. In my view that is not a teacher's purpose.
