Online vocal lessons are great, and there are thousands available on YouTube and through other services, but there is one downside to video lessons. You don’t have someone there to guide you through the proper singing process. This can lead to bad habits, bad technique, and down the road, can lead to vocal chord injury.
Learning bad habits and bad technique can be detrimental to your vocal learning journey because they can cause artificial plateaus or ceilings to learning progress which are impossible progress beyond unless you retrain yourself with proper technique. Relearning and retraining yourself, then takes double the amount of time because you will already have a bunch of bad habits and muscle memory in place fighting against new better habits. Also, you will probably have to take lessons on how to sing again, to relearn singing properly.
Finally, due to learned bad habits and bad technique, there is the risk of repetitive strain injury including vocal chord injury. These injuries can take even more time away from your vocal journey as you will have to stop singing, or sing much less in order to give them time to heal.
