ABOUT

My name is Salome Chitaia and I am a concert pianist. I am a laureate of a number of competitions and have been representing the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw since 2018.

At the moment, I am studying at Doctorate level with renowned professors - Pascal Nemirovski, Mikhail Kazakevich and John Thwaites at the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where I am on full scholarship and am a recipient of the Bradshaw Bursary. I was also a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship of Georgia for four consecutive years (2010-2014).

I have a wide range of repertoire and have experience in playing solo piece, as well as chamber music and working with an orchestra. In the last two years, I have given about 150 solo or chamber music concerts in venues affiliated with the Chopin Society in Warsaw, as well as The Symphony Hall in Birmingham, The Bradshaw Hall, The Grand Hall and Recital Hall of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire. You can learn more about me at my website here.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2019-present) - Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Performance (Level 8 - Doctorate).
Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (2017-2018) - Postgraduate Artistic Training in Piano Performance.
Academy of Music in Krakow (2015-2017) - Master of Music.
Tbilisi State Conservatoire (2010-2014) - Bachelor of Music

I have been teaching piano for about 10 years. I have taught students of all ages and levels (from beginners to Conservatoire students). For one year, I was a professor's assistant at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire (2018-2019). On the side, I have also been teaching English on an online platform for two years.

TEACHING APPROACH

My lesson plan depends on the student I am teaching.
If the student is advanced, I like to go deep in detail to what the composer intended - We will work on phrasing, form, pedaling, different techniques to make playing a piece easier - anything the student needs improving, very often, students have pain while performing, especially if it is a demanding piece, I like to identify this problem and suggest exercises on how to release the strain on the hands and be able to play faster and lighter.

If the student is a beginner, I try to make my lessons fun, but at the same time, I like to set goals - we will work on learning how to read music, how to sit at the piano, how to hold our hands while playing - but I also like to get them started with playing right away, It's important to get acquainted with the instrument I make sure they play (even if it is something simple) on the very first lesson.

But, I have to say, no two cases are the same. I like to mold my lessons to each individual student - after all, music is very personal and my approach to each student will be slightly different - depending on their level, skills, goals and most importantly - their personality!

REVIEWS

Salome is on the best teachers I’ve ever had. She is caring, dedicated and thoughtful. She is a very experienced concert pianist and has a vast knowledge of music, which she always shares with all her students. I would recommend studying with her 100%. 5/5 Rating.
